Power and Performance

The new 2017 Ford Transit Connect features a standard 2.5-liter four-cylinder gas engine that puts out 169 horsepower and 171 pound-feet of torque. The Transit Connect engine can also be configured to run on compressed natural gas (CNG) or liquefied petroleum gas (LPG, or propane). Fuel economy is quite good for a work van: EPA-rated fuel economy is 20 mpg city and 27 mpg highway for the cargo van and 19 mpg city and 27 mpg highway for the passenger wagon version. Properly equipped, the Transit Connect can tow up to 2,000 pounds.

Features and Options

As noted earlier, the 2017 Ford Transit Connect is offered in both cargo van and wagon styles, and as either short wheelbase or long wheelbase models. There are three available trim levels: XL, which can seats seven passengers; and the XLT and the wagon-only Titanium, which can seat five or seven passengers depending on the selected wheelbase. The vans have have dual sliding rear doors and give you a choice between swing-out cargo doors or an overhead liftgate, while the Titanium wagon is only available with the liftgate.

Standard features on the base XL cargo van/b> include A/C, vinyl upholstery and floor covering, built-in tie-down hooks, a fold-flat passenger seat to accommodate longer pieces of cargo and an overhead storage shelf. The XL wagon version only comes with the long wheelbase, and also has rear parking sensors, second and third-row seats, two additional rear speakers and rear climate controls.

Moving up to the XLT edition adds foglights, cloth upholstery and floor carpet, rear privacy glass and cruise control. The XLT wagon also get automatic headlights, a rearview camera, roof rails, a power-adjustable driver's seat, additional front speakers and voice controls.

The Titanium wagon features all of the above plus leather upholstery, heated front seats, dual-zone automatic climate control, adaptive cornering foglights, and Ford's highly-rated SYNC 3 infotainment system with a 6.5-inch touchscreen and navigation.

Additional options for the 2017 Transit Connect include the Ford Telematics system for fleet management, a towing setup, a panoramic sunroof, front and rear parking sensors, and a blind-spot monitor with rear cross-traffic alert.
